1952 Mickey Mantle Card Sells for a Record $12.6 Million
A 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card graded a 9.5 Mint+ by SGC sold for a record-setting $12.6 million with Heritage Auctions on August 28th. The actual sale shattered the pre-auction estimate of $10 million.
Earlier this month, an SGC 2 copy of the T206 Honus Wagner sold for $7.25 million with Goldin. It held the record for the most ever paid for a sports card for just a few weeks, until the 1952 Mantle came along.
The 1952 Mantle also eclipsed the record for any piece of sports memorabilia. Earlier this year, a jersey Diego Maradona wore during the “Hand of God” goal in 1986 World Cup sold for $9.3 million.
