Aaron Judge’s 62nd Home Run Ball Hits the Auction Block
The biggest story of the 2022 Major League Baseball season was Aaron Judge’s chase for the American League home run record. Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961, and the record stood until Judge broke the record on October 4th vs the Texas Rangers.
The fan who caught the historic ball turned down a $3 million offer, believing that it could top the $3.05 million paid for Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball in 1998. Instead, the fan put it up for auction with Goldin for a starting bid of $1 million.
Judge’s 62nd home run ball sold for $1.5 million on December 17th, just half of what the fan was offered but decided to turn down. Judge’s AL record setting ball is the second-most expensive baseball ever sold.
