Joe Montana Jersey Sells for $1.212 Million at Auction
A twice-worn Joe Montana Super Bowl jersey sold for $1,212,000 at auction with Goldin on March 1st. The jersey, coming from the Hall of Famer’s personal collection, set a record for the most paid for an auctioned football jersey.
The red San Francisco 49ers jersey was worn by Montana in two Super Bowls: Super Bowl XIX vs. the Miami Dolphins in 1985 and Super Bowl XXIII vs. the Cincinnati Bengals in 1989.
Montana led the 49ers to a victory over Dan Marino and Dolphins in 1985. The 49ers’ quarterback threw 3 touchdowns and for 331 total yards, earning him the Super Bowl XIX MVP. In 1989, Montana’s last-second touchdown pass helped the 49ers beat the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII.
